Shocked Shocked

Ok, people, GW have got back to us here in the TBBF and have said not having anyone currently "IN" with the BLOOD BOWL community if we would like to still have a SPIKE this calendar year.

IF you are interested in attending a SPIKE tournament, in Mississauga Ontario Canada ... please post to this thread.

I have suggested that at this point the only time that would work for most would be MID November.

This would give us and them time to promote the event. OCT is DEATHBOWL.. and everyone who is someone should be there!!! Worship Skull Skull Skull

I need feedback as to this... date and current interest.

Yes.. GW dropped the ball, they turned it over and they are asking for a re-roll... do we give it to them??

James
(TBBF)

I wish you luck James if you are picking up the torch for this, but for my part Death Bowl (and possibly the Canadian Open) will do it for me. You also have Spazz's event....so unless you guys are jonsing for another tourney...I would let GW sleep in the bed they made. Their prize support wasn't anything great, so I am wondering what $60.00 went towards beside the coin and T-Shirt. I think we just financed the cost of having that cool legacy trophy that Broken Ben won. Smile

Just my thoughts. -Rob

P.S. The only counter-point to that babble is...if they don't get support for a quick patch-work tourney, might they drop it altogether from their future plans?

That has always been the double edged sword to withdrawing support - it supports, wrongly in my mind, GW's own lack of commitment. I truly don't like having the Spike in the same month as the Chaos Cup but it appears that's the only way it happens this year....

(Somebody give 'em a calendar....)

If I can afford it I'll go, but $$$ is tight right now & my commitment will always be to the Death-Bowl over the SPIKE! Hands down, no contest....

Yeah, the big issue, as OMM says is the Chaos Cup is scheduled for the week before. Not a good plan (for attendance) to hold another major right after.

I would say let it go.

I would say do it just for continuity of history......

If only 20 people show, it's better than nothing.

Think yourself lucky - that's only £28.

For the Bloodbowl, we pay £40 (or was it £50?) and only get a coin.

Spike is on my "When I win the Lottery" list, so I'd like to see it happen, even if only a small tourney, just for continuity.

Good luck with getting the support.

I would love to have the Spike this year, since it is located so close to where I live.

BRING IT BACK!!!!!!

Thanks for the praise James Smile

My two cents on the subject. The Chaos Cup is well established in November. The Death Bowl is cemented into October Laughing December and January are just bad months for tournaments. February is the Canadian open. Q'ermit is in March. So... where does that leave us. Not with many good options. I would run the event this year but as a smaller local event. I'd suggest the last weekend in November or the first weekend in December. Run the event just to say that it was run this year, even if it's a small one day event. After that I'd start looking for a good date next year. Your best bet, early May. There's a void there and it's about the only time of year you'll find that in North America. Yes it'll be at the same time as the Blood Bowl but really they aren't fighting for the same coaches. That still leaves the problem of three tournaments in Toronto in the early year. That'll be up to you guy's in TO to work out though.

I agree with everything Brian said here. My only add on would be to explain to GW that this might be a real low turnout and that that should not be an indication of lack of interest but of the tournament being so close to two of the larger North American tournaments that folks had already planned on attending. My fear would be that running this event and getting 12 people to show up would make GW-Canada kill it off completely.

As for 2006 ... As long as it isn't a one day event at Games Day costing BB players 100 CDN to get in the door and THEN extra to play in the tournament ... that's fine.

FYI ... it did NOT go towards the coin. Specialist Games in the UK picks up the cost of the coins.

Q'ermitt was in March, next year it will be in the summer so that it does not conflict with my anniversary! Embarassed Laughing

If the Q'ermitt is moving ... sounds like mid to late March or early April would be perfect as long as they avoid Easter weekend.
