Base rings existed in the first place simply so you could differenciate position players when the teams in the box were comprised of identical figures.
Although one of 'zon blitzers is fairly similar to one of the linewomen, you can easily see which position players are which in the vast majority of cases (with the 'zons, I'm colour coding the feathers).
I always wonder how on earth people who require obvious visual aids to tell positions apart manage to ascertain/remember which players have which skills... |

Purple was the base ring colour for mutants if I recall correctly.
Also, orange was used for runners (again IIRC).
So I guess purple could be considered "Special", which would include your not easily categorised player types such as witch elves.
Oh, and by the way: great work Milo! |

they're nice mate - I was tempted to try a colour scheme like that but I wasn't sure if it would work!
Might use it on dwarf team, if I ever get around to it! |

Simple basing does look to be needed mate - detracts from an otherwise bootiful paintjob.
Simplest I know is a flocking gel (it is spelt correctly ya maroon) from a company called Renaissance Ink in the USA. Apply their medium grade gel using water, let it dry and paint it goblin green then highlight with w gobbo:yellow mix - looks just like the game board and is as hard as hell - you would break the base before chipping this stuff if you did it right. |

I use numbers for position identiication, however I thing the base color would be much faster for someone else to reconize.
1 = Rat Ogre
11, 12 = Thrower
31-34 = Gutter Runner
41-52 = Linerat
71,72 = Storm Vermin |

Ok I have to ask this I'm almost possitive I'm just missing somethjing with the colored bases, but What are the different colors for? <ducks flames> I haven't played an actual face to face game for quite a while and so I don't know exactly what they stand for. Is it just a way to keep track of certain player types or is there a color coding system? |

It harks back to second edition days. The 2e box set had two teams of identical figures, and they had colour coded rings around the base to differenciate between the positions.
Red=Blitzer
White=Thrower
Yellow=Catcher
Green=Blocker
Grey (plain)=Lineman
Some people still like to use them, and indeed they're not a bad idea if you're running a converted team or something where the positions aren't readily identifiable to your opponent. |
