Why would anyone want to spend time and attention to painting a fig only to ruin the damn thing by putting a coloured base on it. When your average joe has dipped his fig in a pot of paint and then chucked a few colours at it then coloured rings might be necessary to distinguish what the blob is meant to be. There are other more subtle ways to identifying a fig but if you can't work it out for yourselfs then your probably in the blobbers painting class. (no offence Milo, cos you r not.)
