I love the pitch!

What did you make it out of?

Thanks Smile

The pitch was quite easy, It is just a base of 3mm MDF with a 2cm sheet of polystyrene (just bigger than a pitch size), I then cut out a piece of the battle mat the same size as the polystyrene and stuck it down with PVA. When dry, wet parts of the mat and scrape away the grass with an old knife. Paint the bare patches with watered down PVA, then various browns to your liking. The other browns on the grass are simply dry brushed brown. The dugouts, scoreboard and endzone stands are all made out of balsa wood, pop sticks and matchsticks. Then give them a watered down brown ink wash to age them. The turn and reroll markers are just printed off the computer and stuck down beside each dugout. I actually use goblin squig riders for my markers on these.

I am currently working on my new ogre teams pitch and will post pics up when finished.

I got my mat from a model shop, it's basically the same as GW's only cheaper. One mat should be enough to make 4 pitches as well. Smile

Went and picked one up today - it is 50" x 100" which should be enough for a few boards! And it was only $30 to boot!

Just wanted to post and say this is a great looking team. I loved the coach and his assistant, lol. Is that a tic-tac-toe board that the assistant is holding up?

Great work on the team and field. Hope they've brought you some luck in game.

Thanks, yep that is a tic-tac-toe board the assistant is holding, who's going to listen to the coach on a goblin team anyway? Very Happy

The gobbos are doing great, 11 games without a loss and only 2 draws in that as well.

Hey Spazzfist, hows the mats going?

Every board is a learning curve for me!

This one taught me that I need to be careful to make sure that the glue is spread on very smooth and thin. For two reasons:

1) So that there are no small hills where the glue is underneath

2) So the glue has a chance to dry! I put the board together a week ago and the glue under is still wet! (I noticed this when I smoothed out the hills).

But other than that it is great. I was able to pick up the turf cheap, and have lots left over. So more plans in the works! I will be sure to post pics when the work is done. Right now I am working on putting together the dugouts, boards and jumbo-tron screen.

All in all I think it will be one of my best boards to date! (and model friendly too, so Lagerbottom need not worry! Wink)

Yep water down that glue and I found (on the second one unfortunatly) that a rolling pin or similar worked well getting all the creases and bumps out. A few bumps here and there make it look better anyway, especialy on a goblin pitch Very Happy

Just curious, what did you do to measure the squares on the pitch?

Just a long ruler! Thats it. I marked the black dots with a permenant marker and a white paint marker for the white lines.
