DBV, the Year of the OGRE!
Glen Jones (twodiceblock) and the boys in Ottawa will be bringing you Deathbowl this year, after Brian's retirement. We now have to try and live up to the high standard he has set. This will be no easy task so we are getting the discussions and planning started now.
.
DB V
Date: October 20-21 2007
Location: The Bronson Centre, 211 Bronson Ave, Ottawa, ON
Format
Saturday
DB game 1
Lunch - included in price
DB game 2
Dinner - included in price
DB game 3
Sunday
DB game 4
Prizes
Homeward bound
Team selection
TV 125
LRB5 rules
You may buy skills at the improvement cost price in the LRB5 rulebook.
You may buy inducements, except star players and Cards.
The Year of the Ogre
All the best ogre teams are coming from far and wide so Ogres may buy the Pro skill for 20k rather than 30k.
Ogres may purchase star players (Brick Farth an Grotty count as 1 choice but take 2 roster places).
Scoring system
Beating your direct opponent (win) = 3 points
Tieing with your direct opponent (Tie) = 1 point
Losing to your direct opponent (Loss) = 0 points
Bonus
Scoring the most TDs on the table = 2 points
Causing the most CAS on the table = 1 point
(CAS only count from blocking)
The Painting Scoring
There are a maximum of 2.5 points for painting (a little less than one "win") which most people should be able to get.
There are 6 painting categories, each worth 1/2 a point so you can miss one and still get your full 2.5 points.
The categories are:
Painted : All models are fully painted, with no metal or undercoat showing. Three colours are the minimum allowed.
Based: All models have a textured base
Numbered: All models are numbered in a visible way
Detailed: All models are highlighted/shaded or whatever so they don't just look like the "flat" basic colour
Conversion: At least one model on the team has had significant work done on it to make if different from the production version.
Representative: All the models on the team are representative of the player they depict. E.g. the lizardmen team has small models for the skinks and big models for the saurus (they don't need to be lizards though, they could be big and little monkeys for example ) Another way to get this 1/2 point is to use the ring colour basing scheme. You could have a team of 11 linemen models but paint the blitzer base rings red, the catchers yellow, the throwers white, the blockers green and the linemen black ala 2nd edition.
Full rules to be posted soon.

Just be aware that the World Cup in in October. Not sure how many folks from Canada are going over ... but just wanted to make sure you had that on your mental radar. Probably doesn't matter ... but wanted to point it out.

totally aware, cheers Galak. that is one of the things which will affect timing. If Canada enters a team, and a bunch of eastern coaches go then deathbowl will be located away from the world cup. Don't know what the status of the world cup team is though.....
THe main reason for october time is that we want to keep DBV close to the regular date for DB, just to maintain some continuity.
cheers

Well Joe, I know that everyone has been begging me to be the captain for Team Canada, but I don't think that I will make the World Cup. Sorry to let all of my fans down! |

Hey Joe if you are looking at trying to keep the Death Bowl at around the same time of the month as Brian did. He was going to hold it this year on the weekend of the 13-14 of October.

I chatted with Brian about that. Brian did suggest piggy-backing it on all the PR for the world cup and holding it the same weekend.
No decision has been made yet. In fact I havent even talked to Glen about a date yet, so no news at all really
Hopefully we'll have some info together by the time we go to the Open.....

Craig.....If you were asked to be captain of Team Canada.....we must be sending over the cream of the crop when it comes to the BOTTOMFEEDERS across Canada. We all know that you are certainly the best of the BOTTOMFEEDERS!!!! LOL!!!
Joe just set a date already....enough teasing. I work at the Casino and need to book the time off. |

Well, it's not quite as short a drive as Montreal where we also have family to stay with, but I've been talking it over with Roxanne and we'll plan on making the trip We'll probably head up early in the week and take a little vacation together in Ottawa checking out the museums and whatnot, then she'll take the train to Montreal for the weekend.
I'm not available the US Columbus Day weekend, but I think that's also Canadian Thanksgiving.
Since I got the Ogre team doorprize at DBIV, I really ought to bring it to the Year of the Ogre! So it's moved up to the head of the line on my paint board. Now I need to learn how to play the team...
And I just couldn't resist snitching Spazzfist's idea of the Mexican wrestlers For a personal touch, I've combined this theme with the hometown high school football team, the Golden Tornados, to create:
Los Tornados Enmascarados
If our two teams face off at the tourney, we'll have to fight for the World Wrestling Association title
Cheers,
Maureen |
