After an especially hardfought tournament, the local pub is packed with players from all varieties of races. As dawn approaches, those still standing decide that they didn’t get enough action the previous day and are itching for another chance to showcase their skills. With only the remnants of teams from the tournament in the pub, the players agree to draw up squads from whomever is available. As the whistle blows and the haze from the previous night clears, the players look around at their squads seeing both former friends and foes. However, when the ball is kicked off, they quickly realize that doesn’t matter because they are united by their love of Blood Bowl!
------------------------------------------
Way back in 1988, some friends and I played Blood Bowl in a draft format. Inspired by the existence of The Mongrel Horde squad and the lore surrounding The Crush, we thought it would be fun to try out a mixed race format where the coaches took turns drafting players to their squads, and boy were we not disappointed! Orcs played alongside elves, skaven, goblins, and more. There was no animosity back then, but hilarity and mayhem certainly ensued in those games. So, when I saw that the NAF had published rules for a draft-style tournament, I knew I had to try it! Alas, there were no local NAF Blood Bowl draft events.

Thus, it’s my pleasure to introduce The Draughthouse Massacre; a NAF-sanctioned, Resurrection & Swiss-styled event taking place at a local pub (Don't worry, I'll still be running The Beantown Brouhaha later in the year).

Coaches must be available for both the online draft night and the day of the tournament itself in order to participate in the tournament. With that said, let’s cover some basics:

You'll take part in one amazing online draft, have ample time to build/paint your custom squad, and participate in 3 Rounds of Blood Bowl Mayhem at a venue where adult beverages are available for those of age!

Registration will close on 04/30/2020 -see the rules pack for registration information.
Draft will be online via Discord on 05/01/2020
You then have 2.5 months to acquire and paint your team

Tournament Day Event Schedule (August 15,2020):
o 10:00am Tournament Location Opens and Registration/Check-In Begins
o 10:30am-12:30pm Round One
o 12:30-1:30pm Lunch Break
o 1:30-3:30pm Round Two
o 3:45-6:00pm Round Three
o 6:00pm- Awards/Dinner/More Beers

Team Creation:
o Following the draft, teams will be created utilizing 1.15M gold crowns and must contain a minimum of eleven of your drafted players (you can certainly buy all twelve of your drafted players if you have the budget to do so)
o Team re-rolls cost 70,000 GC each
o Coaching Staff, Cheerleaders, Apothecaries, and Fan Factor may also be purchased at standard prices
o All Inducements are Prohibited
o Additional Skills - Each coach may add four normal skills and two doubles skills to their team before the start of the event. However, each player can have no more than one additional skill. No additional skills will be gained in subsequent rounds to keep things moving. All skills MUST be noted on the team roster which is submitted to the Tournament Organizer at registration on the day of the tournament or prior. Pro tip: Putting the added skills is BOLD font or highlighting them on your roster will help them to stand out.
o Miniatures must be numbered clearly and must be representative of the player type
o Colored rubber bands or skill rings will keep the tournament moving along and are strongly encouraged. I will have some on hand if you need them.
o Once your roster is ready, please send it to me. The more rosters I can check before the event, the quicker we can get rolling on the day of the event!

Tournament Rules and Gameplay:
o THE GOLDEN RULE: Sportsmanship matters more than winning. We are gathering to enjoy our time together and share our love of Blood Bowl. Be considerate of your fellow coaches. At the end of the day this is still just a game. Should the TO need to address bad sportsmanship, a coach may be removed from the tournament at the TO’s discretion.
o NAF 2020 Tournament Rules are in play (inducement and skill related items specific to the event are clarified above under Team Creation)
o Resurrection/Swiss Style Event
o Prior to each game, coaches should agree what constitutes a ‘cocked’ die and discuss any other issues relating to dice rolling mechanisms and reach consensus (ie dice towers). Should either coach request, dice must be shared between coaches.
o Player aids, such as probability Apps, calculators and the like must not be used while in-game.
o External coaching of players in-game is not permitted.
o The Illegal Procedure rule will not be in use; just politely remind your opponent to move their turn marker.
o Turn timer rules will also not be in place. Please note that you may be given a certain amount of time to complete your game should you be running late at the discretion of the Tournament Organizer.
o Overtime will not be played.

Tournament Scoring:
Teams will be ranked after each match using the below point scale (10-75 potential points).
o Winning the Match = 55 Points
o Tied the Match = 35 Point
o Losing the Match = 10 Points
o Blowout Bonus = 10 Points (win by 2 or more TD’s)
o Smackdown Bonus = 10 Points (inflict more casualties than your opponent)
o Kept It Close Bonus = 10 Points (lose by only 1 TD)
o Because we are limited to three rounds, the tournament champion and runner-up will both be determined by points.

Tie Breakers:
If two or more teams have the same number of points the following tie-breakers will be applied in this order:
o Head-to-Head Result (if they have played one another)
o Sum of TD Differential & CAS Differential
o TD’s Scored
o CAS Inflicted
o Coin Toss/Random Die Roll by TO

So, for the official record the venue closed due to covid and the tournament was cancelled and refunds were issued to all coaches. We held the draft online, and that was a good time. Looking forward to rescheduling in a post-covid world.
