Master and Apprentice
In a shady dive bar deep in the bowels of the Underworld sat an old, grizzled man. Smoke hung low about his head as he stared on the mostly full mug of swill in front of him. Into the bar walked a young man, energetic, with more life in his eyes than all the rest of the patrons combined. On the TV in the corner played an old blood bowl game, the world cup from some years past. The young man sat down at the table with the old man. As the TV camera panned to the coach of one of the championship teams the young man addressed his tablemate, “is that you?” A small, sneering smile started to creep across the old mans face as he replied, “it used to be.”
Undeterred the newcomer pressed on, “I’ve travelled to world looking for the best tutor to make me a world class blood bowl coach. Let me be your apprentice, teach me what you know.” The old man sat back in his chair, “there’s nothing I can teach you, find someone better.” The young man stared unconvinced. “Bah, your record with your Tomb Kings team remains unbeaten to this day. Take me as your apprentice, teach me.”
The would be master gave the would be apprentice an appraising look. “You are too young, come back when you have more experience.” The young man countered, “I’ve been through the minor leagues, I’ve read extensively on rules and strategy. I’m experienced enough to learn from you.”
“You are too old” the master countered. “Too much you would have to unlearn.”
“You will find I am a quick study and very adaptable” the young man countered.
With no more excuses left, the soon to be master finally accepted the young man as his apprentice. They trained together and the master taught him all he knew.
(Insert 80’s music training montage)
The Apprentice was taught the “chaos claw pincher” maneuver. The “D-town goblin bait-and-switch” and even the “Hoshi Komi roll-a-door.” The Master watched with pride as the Apprentice took the blood bowl scene by storm, rising through the ranks. And then, one day years later, the Master and Apprentice meet again in the shady dive bar.
“You have learned all I have to teach you,” said the Master. “But there is one more task you must complete to truly become a master. You must defeat me.” With determination in his eyes, the Apprentice eagerly accepted, grateful for the tutelage and friendship that had developed over the years.
So, the two began to organize, gathered their teams, and prepare to face each other on the pitch to see if the Apprentice and truly become the Master. |

Rosters that are submitted by midnight on Oct 16th will receive a free assistant coach on their roster.
Registration will include a set of stunned tokens, a "Master" coaster or and "Apprentice" coaster (depending on team), Breakfast/lunch/Dinner on Saturday, Breakfast/lunch on Sunday, beverages/beer all weekend and a place to stay if you want to crash at Solomon's or Ryan's house(just bring blankets/pillow/blowup bed/towel)

9:00 - 9:30 Registration
9:30 - 10:00 Draft
10:00 - 12:15 Game 1
12:15 - 13:00 Lunch
13:00 - 15:15 Game 2
15:30 - 17:45 Game 3
18:00 - till whenever with Eating/Drinking/Gaming
Sunday
09:00 - 11:15 Game 4
11:15 - 12:15 Lunch
12:15 - 14:30 Game 5
15:00 - 15:30 Awards
First round will be random - after first round it will be Swiss pairings.
Things to bring:
Copy of bloodbowl 2020 rulebook, NAF Rules updates, 2020 deathzone and any applicable spike updates by that time, 2 copies of team roster for each round(10 total), Dice(decide before game to use for the entire game for both coaches) Please decide how to deal with “cocked” dice before each game.
Individual Points
Win -- 7 pts
Tie -- 3 pts
Loss -- 0 pts
No overtimes will be played
Placing is decided by total points
Casualty Rules
Only casualties caused by blocks/crowd/fouling will count. Failed dodge/gfi/landing do not count.
Other Stuff:
Apo will work normally as per the standard ruleset including that it cannot be used on stars. Infamous coaches are allowed.
Team Construction Rules:
Tier I
Wood Elf, Undead, Skaven, Orc, Chaos Dwarves, Norse, Lizardmen, Amazons, Dwarf, Dark Elf, Imperial Nobility, OWA, Underworld Denizens, Humans, Elven Union.
Tier I Team Builds
1.0 mil team build (players, rerolls, fan factor, all inducements are allowed) Let me know ahead of time if you plan on using cards so I can have them available. Your card will change after each round that it is used. The old CRP cards will be used. I have a couple sets if needed.
After team is made:
Before round 1: Add 80k to the team
Before round 2: Add 80k
Before round 3: Add 80k
Before round 4: Add 80k
Before round 5: Add 80k
This money can be anything that could normally be bought(players/rerolls/inducements/coaches/ff/cheerleaders/apo/infamous coaching staff/wizards) and upgrades may be purchased for players as well. No player may receive more than one upgrade per round(you could have 5 on one player by round 5, but not on round 1). Money may be "banked" from round to round. No player may receive more than two of the same stat upgrade. Rerolls bought after initial team build do not cost double. Each coach will add the assigned value to their roster for each round prior to round one. Please note on your roster the round skills are added. The tournament roster spreadsheet linked here below is preferable.

Please print two copies of your roster for each round. One for each round will be given to the tournament organizer and you will keep one. The tournament organizer will hand back your roster copy for your opponent to use as reference.
Note: You may bank the money from one round to the next. So, you could save all your money from the 2nd round(80K) and use the 80k from round 3 to buy a 160k star that will remain on the roster for the rest of the tourney. You will just be handicapped on the second round and there will be no inducements added if there is a Team Rating differential due to banking money. You may not bank any money from the original 1.0 mil roster construction or use any of the original 1.0 on skills/attributes. The original 1.0 may be used for any inducements including stars. You must start with a rulebook legal roster including 11 players. This 11 may not include star players. Team Rerolls do not cost double if bought after round one. Bloodbowl 2020, Deathzone 2020 and all current spike magazine rules are in effect. New Stars are in effect(no 2016 stars). Any/all of the initial 80k for skills/attributes may be used on Initial team construction but team construction money cannot be spent on skills/attributes.

A special champion edition Underworld Cup board will be given to the winner. There will be goblets for all other prizes. All players will receive above stated goodies. All players will also receive special tourney related coasters as above.
The Underworld Cup will feature a sub-competition which will be a "Coach Draft"

Kenta Washington "The Master"
AJ Murray "The Apprentice"
Teams will be selected via "School Yard Draft" at the beginning of the tournament. Team scoring will have no effect on individual scores.
Points for team competition:
Win=2
Tie=1
Loss=0

Can the old 150k wizard be used?
No, only the new wizards(there are several).
Are the new Merc rules allowed?
No
If my opponent and I have the same star player, do they both play?
No, neither will play for that game.
Do you need 11 players before hiring a star? Yes, you must have at least 11 total players on your roster before adding stars.
What stars are allowed?
